The Jewish Messiah - Part Two

Our message this week is the second in a series concentrating on clearly identifying Jesus as the Jewish Messiah. Last week's message showed Jesus was brought up in a Jewish family and as an adult functioned as an observant Jewish man. This week's message will study the birth of Jesus.

Matthew 1:21-22 describes an angel sent from God speaking to Joseph who became the earthly father of Jesus, "She (Mary) will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet." The son that Mary will give birth to will be conceived by The Holy Spirit and is to be called Jesus! The most important part of this announcement is that Jesus will save His people, the Jewish people, from their sins. Hallelujah!

We also should look at verse 23 saying, "The Virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and they will call Him Immanuel - which means, 'God with us.'" Jesus was God coming to earth in the form of man! Notice the birth of Jesus was the fulfillment of a prophetic message.

We turn now to the Old Testament and the prophetic messages about the birth of Jesus. Isaiah 7:14 says, "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call Him Immanuel." Notice this is the exact same prophetic message brought forth in Matthew 1:23!

Lastly, we need to carefully examine Isaiah 9:6-7 describing this child who is to be born, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever."

Again Jesus is referred to as God coming to earth, in this case He is called "Mighty God." This prophetic word also declares that Jesus will reign on David's throne. This confirms Matthew 1:1 which describes Jesus as the Son Of David and 2Samuel 7:16 that declare David's throne will last forever.

Messages in upcoming weeks will study Psalm 72 and Isaiah 61 that further illustrate Jesus as the Jewish Messiah!

May The Lord Bless You And Keep You This Day And Every Day,
Frank
